Godfather Kannada Movie Review

Movie:Godfather Movie
Rating:3.75/5
Cast – Upendra (triple role), Soundarya, Catherine, Shwetha, Ramesh Bhat, Sudha Belawadi, Kuri Pratap, Siddaraj Kalyankar
Music – AR Rahman
Producer – K Manju
Direction and Cinematography – S Sriram
Story
This is a remake of 2006 ‘Varalaaru’ Tamil film in which Ajith played triple role. Upendra has repeated it in Kannada version coming in 2012 July end.It is father’s admiration to son on the one side and son’s sympathy to the mother. All the four characters are connected in which three are Upendra and one is Catherine.‘God Father’ has no connection to Hollywood cinema. In this Shiva is the ‘God Father’. He gives utmost needs for his son.
He is on a wheel chair. He is a top man in the city. The hiccup is to his son Vijay (Upendra) from Ajay (Upendra). One is growing with father a ‘God Father’ and the other one is growing with ‘Mad Mother’. For the situation of his mother Ajay wants to take revenge on his father. So he troubles Vijay in his marriage. When the situation goes to the extent of killing ‘God Father’ that is ‘Shiva’ he gets up from the wheel chair to open his third eye.
This Shiva flash back is the biggest draw of the film. One of the rarest characters Shiva behaves like a female character. He is an excellent dancer. In the village he is considered as impotent and eunuch. Sujatha looking the dance video of Shiva agrees for marriage and shecomes straight to the marriage hall. The height of insult that Shiva faces makes him gutsy. He rapes Sujatha in her room. The result is the birth of twins – Vijay and Ajay.In the climax Ajay is sick and he wants to kill his father Shiva and he barges to the marriage where he is revealed the truth. ‘God Father’ is gunned down at this place.
Analysis:
A tough film to make has come out superbly from debutant S Sriram. He is too good in his cinematography. There are minor corrections he should have made at some places. For Upendra playing triple role and each one is filled with fire is a treat for his fans. The ‘Real Star’ he is called is proved in this film.
Director Sriram has brought down the original film by half an hour but still this looks lengthy. The surprise he reveals for the new audiences (who have not seen Varalaaru Tamil) this is an engaging film. The film opens with softness around, it boils up at the interval and it continues the heat and curiosity in the minds of audience till the end.
The gunning down of ‘God Father’ happens in the marriage hall – no one knows the reason behind. One has to imply that he is enemy of God Father. The film ‘God Father’ giving importance to father, mother and sons is narrated in a tricky style with confusions in the minds of the characters. In the makeup department there is mistake on the part of director of this film. Catherine as mother to Upendra is unacceptable. Catherine skin structure does not change even after the son is 25 years of age.
The actress getting good makeup was very much needed.Secondly the creation of confusion – taking the Vijay character to psychiatrist loses its relevance when seriously the film is looked at. At this point – before interval it appears ‘Arakshaka’ of the recent Upendra is bouncing back in ‘God Father’.
Performances:
The glorious part is Upendra as ‘God Father’. On a wheel chair, dancing moments and action portion – he is excellent. It is a right selection for Upendra – he is a growing actor, thinking actor and absorbing actor and besides that the director in him always alert gives the best out of him in this kind of film.
The role of ‘God Father’ – Shiva – Upendra learning Bharathanatyam moments and changing his style completely deserves full compliments. The other two roles of Vijay and Ajay are routine for him. In style Upendra is scintillating.
Kannada cinema industry has got a bonus on this Varamahalakshmi Day – that is via Soundaraya Shreyasi – daughter of Dr Jayamala.
The role is short for Soundaraya but she has great screen presence. In the naughty moments, emotional situations and dancing moments she has given a complacent performance. She has a great future ahead. For Catherine there is more scope and not knowing the language is a hindrance for this good looking actress.
TECHNICALITY –
When Ustaad of film music is around there is no short fall. That is true. AR Rahman three original tunes and two fresh ones are in top standards.
The song Sanchari Manasu…..Alapane…..are superb. The mother song Laali Laali Amma….the lyric of K Kalyan in this song is peerless. The background score meeting the moods of the characters is well conceived.
Director Sriram is also cameraman Sriram. It is 75 percent of marks for his direction while 85 percent of marks out of 100 for his cinematography.
The editing at places falls short. The scene one on place abruptly ends. That is not a major fault. The art direction – selection of outdoor locations and interior designing of the house done for the film is marvelous.
The dialogues of Upendra another winning point of this ‘God Father’.
Final Word :God Father is Great and Grand ‘God Father’ for Kannada audience!

All The Best Telugu Movie Review
All the Best Review – All the Best Movie Review, Rating, All the Best Telugu Film Review: After a string of flops as a director, JD Chekravarthy is back with All the Best movie, in which Srikanth played the lead role along with JD. Here is the review

Story:

Ravi (Srikanth) is badly in need of money to bail out his father who was jailed in a cheating case. Ravi seeks the help of conman Chandu (Chakravarthy) and they both team up to pull off a heist. They have the task of selling a land to one billionaire and in turn they get 1 crore rupees. Numerous characters come in and unexpected events take place. How they overcome all the problems and succeed forms rest of the story.

Film Name: All The Best
Banner: Sudha Cinema
Cast: JD Chakravarthy, Srikanth, Lucky Sharma, Raghu Babu, Krishna Bhagavan, Rao Ramesh, Brahmaji, Chandra Mohan, Brahmanandam, Kota Srinivasa Rao
Direction: JD Chekravarthy
Music: Hema Chandra
Producer: J Sambasiva Rao
Powers Of Info  Movie Rating:
1.3/5

Analysis:

All the Best is a rip off of Spanish film titled Nine Queens. JD Chakravarthy added a comedy track on Raghu Babu to it. This comedy track was copied from Hollywood comedy ‘Johnny English Reborn’. JD tried to bring in the Telugu nativity by setting it in Rajahmundry.

In spite of having a healthy plot and strong star cast, JD failed to make it an interesting fare. Comedy scenes didn’t come out well and the acting was pretty bad. Screenplay was another letdown which made this film a painful experience to sit through.

There is hardly anything worthy to watch it on silver screen. If you have seen Nine Queens already, then this would be disastrous at the best. Even if you aren’t aware of the original, poorly written screenplay and badly developed characters won’t impress you much. All the Best will end up as one of the bad films in recent times.

Performances:

Srikanth was fine, but somehow lacked the spirit. Uninspiring character must be the reason for it. JD Chakravarthy who is usually best in portraying negative roles, surprisingly failed as an actor this time. Raghu Babu’s gags may work for the lower class audience. Brahmanandam was wasted. There is nothing to mention about the other star cast including the leading lady.

Technicalities:

Dialogues were bad. Most of them were meaningless. Cinematography was poor. Editing was amateurish. Music was another major minus. Background score was unbearable. The film is made on a shoestring budget and that should be the only saving grace.

Chakravarthy fails as a director yet again. He should stop relying upon copied stories and should try out something original. He is not good at comedy and should concentrate upon making low budget thrillers. After Money money and More Money this is another disaster from him.

Final Word:

All the Best is targeted at mass audience. A better screenplay could have helped the film to impress the target audience. However, it is made on a low budget and that will play a major role in the end result. As a film All the Best is a huge disappointment.

Cast : Naseeruddin Shah, Sonu Sood, Neha Dhupia, Amit Sadh, and Vinay Pathak
Director : Kabeer Kaushik
Music : Amjad Nadeem, Devi Sri Prasad
Rating : 3/5

With a kind of brisk business-like immediacy and the least amount of fuss, “Maximum” takes us into the world of shoot-out killings and the internecine war in Mumbai’s police department which threatens to destroy the very institution built to mend the wounds and fissures in the social fabric.

Writer-director Kabeer Kaushik seems to be a born minimalist. His earlier film “Saher” was also steeped in the khaki colour. In “Maximum”, the world of legally-enforced corruption is created with such a lack of back-projection, history and vocalized subtexts that you often feel the director takes his audience for granted.

This is not the case. Kaushik presumes that we are intelligent enough to enter the murky morally ambivalent world of his characters without being led by the hand.

Naseeruddin Shah, who plays a ruthless encounter cop Arun Inamdar, is introduced to us when a victim lies bleeding in front of the cop. Characteristically the director plunges into the scene of crime when the dark deed is done. We see Inamdar watching the victim bleed to death and then pumping two bullets into the chap to ensure there’s no unfinished business here.

This is a world of unmitigated immorality. Bullets are fired not to stop but to merchanidise crime. And the lawmakers are shown to be as corrupt as the ones they set out to nab and mend.

Pratap Pandit, as played by Sonu Sood, is a man of a few words, much action. We are not given a chance to know him closely. He shifts gears so often we’re often left looking briefly at gaping wounds that can never heal in our socio-political system.

The narration assumes a peculiar pace. As guns roar and Daniel George plays out an elegiac evocative background score to underline the senselessness of the violence, we can see the characters’ self imposed emptiness in the face of the volatile noise that they’ve created around their lives. The hollowness hits you in the head more than the heart. And when the emotions seize the plot in a vice-like grip we feel terribly sorry for the characters for the death trap that they’ve built for one another and finally themselves.

The film opens in 2003 at the height of the encounter killings in Mumbai. Two encounter specialists played by Sonu and Naseer are at loggerheads.

Admirably the director doesn’t use the two principal characters to form a central conflict. Kaushik’s narration is as ruthless and stripped of humour and other sources of cinematic solace as the world his characters inhabit. A certain amount of familiarity with the world of encounter killings is assumed on the audiences’ part. We are expected to understand the subverted value-system of the encounter cops who do their social cleansing and in the process get so embroiled in blood, their hands are soaked in the very blood that they are meant to wash away.

Hence our ‘hero’ Pratap (based on a real-life encounter specialist) is shown to kill criminals, extort money from builders and businessman and hobnob with the powerful and profance. And yet he returns home to a loving wife (Neha Dhupia) and a daughter. The father-daughter scenes are done with a tremulous tenderness.

Sonu invests immense emotion in these scenes. His performance takes him through several moral dilemmas. Years pass. Sonu’s body language expresses the deplorable shift in power equations. Here’s a performance that again proves this underrated actor’s unimpeachable versatility.

“When you are slipping you either fight back or you keep quiet,” he tells his journalist-friend, played by Amit Sadh. They share keema-paoat an Irani restaurant. As the years pass, earlier the cop paid, later the scribe does. A subtle illustration of a power-shift that says so much about the socio-economic equations of Mumbai.

The journalist’s character remains a kind of sutradhar. By the end of the film we really don’t know who is in the crime folds for the money and who’s there for the power.

“Maximum” is a film that’s far more in-charge of its out-of-control sharp-shooting cops than it seems. Yes, there have been any number of films about encounter cops. But this one gets at the underbelly of desolation and isolation of such cops as effectively as Shimit Amin’s “Ab Tak Chappan”.

There are some brilliantly executed shootouts.

A layered sharp and sagacious look at the internecine world of encounter cops, “Maximum” is a minimum-fuss crime drama where the characters are so austere in their emotions they somehow seem to be constantly shadow-dancing with their conscience.

The performances by Sonu and Naseer Shah propel the plot to a gripping summit. But there isn’t enough of Naseer. Vinay Pathak as a Uttar Pradesh politician and Amit as a journalist, both trying to make sense of Mumbai’s confounding cosmopolitanism, add considerably to the film’s powerful personality.

For Sonu “Maximum” is a new beginning.
Verdict : A minimum-fuss crime drama

Teri Meri Kahaani 2012 Bollywood Movie Review

Story: A love tale passing different generations, the story is set on the backdrop of 1910, 1960 and 2012. Three pairs Govind- Rukhsar,  Krish- Radha, Javed- Aradhana (Shahid- Priyanka) are born in these three different times but the subject is the same, the love for the young boy towards the pretty girl. While he is unable to express it in one of his births, can he clear the confusion in the latest day? Will Javed and Aradhana be together? Can Rukhsar realize Govind’s feelings? All this forms the rest of the story.

Presentation: The director has come up with an interesting storyline and while the presentation was good, the narrative was engaging in parts. The dialogues were nice, the script was adequate and the screenplay was decent. Background score was good and three songs were worth humming. Cinematography was impressive. Editing was upto the mark but missed out on few scenes. Costumes were suiting the backdrop of the film while the art department was rich and colorful. Shahid Kapoor has come up with a committed performance and he scores well. Equally good is Priyanka Chopra and their screen chemistry is nice. Prachi Desai makes her presence felt. Neha Sharma was natural. Surendra Pal is standard. Vrajesh Hirjee was good.

Conclusion: The film happens across three different times but the characters are same. However, while you know that something is cooking between them they don’t know about their past births, that is the interesting bit here. While the first half goes about with the elements of romance and comedy, the second half gets into the past and has a serious but poetic environment. Overall, the film scores in parts and it would appeal to the youth audience. At the box office, the openings will be strong due to star power and a lot will depend on the word of mouth publicity.

Sakuni Movie Full Review

Shakuni Telugu Movie Review: Karthi has teamed up with Pranitha for the political entertainer ‘Shakuni’ and the movie has released today across the world in both Telugu and Tamil versions. Shankar Dayal is the director of the film and Gnanavel Raja has produced this project on Studio Green banner. Music has been scored by G.V.Prakash. With a big Telugu release, expectations are high on this film so Let us see how it is.

Story: Kamal Krishna (Karthi) is a simple guy from the town of Samarlakota. He comes to Hyderabad to seek the help of political leaders in a bid to save his ancestral home which is scheduled for demolition for a Railway track. But he faces insults and abuses from all the leaders, especially the corrupt and cruel Chief Minister Bhupathi (Prakash Raj) . A dejected Kamal decides that gaining political power is the only way to save his property. He comes across a local auto driver Rajini a.k.a. Appalraju (Santhanam) and with his help, he sets out to achieve his objective.

He first meets a local money lender cum Don Ramanakka (Radhika) and convinces her to file a nomination for the post of Corporator. With his schemes and intelligence, he makes her the Mayor of Hyderabad. Next in line is the rustic Sanyasi B.D.Baba (Nasser). Kamal polishes and packages him into a powerful and highly revered Godman. As Ramanakka and B.D.Baba become extremely popular, Kamal starts gaining recognition and he comes across an old political leader named Perumal (Kota Srinivasa Rao). Perumal is the head of the Opposition Party in the state and Kamal once again uses his intelligence and schemes to make Perumal popular.

But the evil CM Bhupathi is not going to take things lying down. He strikes back at Kamal in unexpected and severe ways. In between all this is a romantic track with his maradalu Sridevi (Pranitha). Will Kamal survive these attacks? Will he be able to save his property? That forms the rest of the story.

Technical Aspects : Cinematography is quite good and the visuals are pleasing. Editing is not upto the mark and it could have been better. Music and background score provided by G.V.Prakash is a big letdown for the movie. Dialogues are entertaining, especially the political lines in the second half.

The director showed good skills in the second half, but his grip on script and screenplay could have been better in the first half, as mentioned already.

Plus Points : Karthi looks handsome and he employs his killer smile to great effect in the movie. He has natural charm and his performance is relaxed. His efforts to dub in Telugu are worth appreciating and it actually works very well. He shoulders the movie admirably and gives a very convincing performance. Full Marks!

The second half of the film is quite entertaining and the pace is good. The satires on the political system and the schemes between the opposing political parties will work well with the audience, given the current political climate in the state. Prakash Raj is good as the evil CM Bhupathi. This performance is a cakewalk for him. Santhanam brings a few laughs at Auto Driver Rajini and his scenes with Karthi are good in places.

Radhika delivers a good performance as Ramanakka. Kota Srinivasa Rao and Nasser are pretty decent. Anushka and Roja have small cameos and it is good to see Anushka after a long time on the big screen.

Minus Points : Pranitha is not very impressive as the lead heroine. She does not have the glamour to match Karthi and her role is actually quite small. Her romantic track with Karthi has been handled poorly. The first half of the film is a big let down and the story does not move forward much. The non linear narration can actually get a little boring in the first half.

The actual plot is not too impressive and if not for the entertaining political satires in the second half, the movie would have had a tough time. Though Karthi’s ancestral property is at stake in the film, the emotional conflict about this is not portrayed very well. A stronger emotional motive would have helped.

The songs act as mere speed breakers and their placement in the movie could have been better.

Final Word : Shakuni is a political entertainer that is worth watching once for a sparkling performance from Karthi and an entertaining second half. The movie’s first half is disappointing and so is G.V.Prakash’s work. Overall, Shakuni will work if you love watching political satires. The movie will have a decent chance at the Box Office because of the present political climate and the lack of new big releases.
